The Weekend That Was…..

So last Weekend was the Cape Provincial Tournament.

The day started overcast, then we had some rain and it finally ended with bright hot sunshine.

I am very happy with my shooting today and here is why.

90m 267 ‘New national record’ previous score was 263

70m 301 ‘New national record’ previous score was 294

50m 308 ‘New national record’ previous score was 292

Let’s not talk about 30m, lost some of my rhythm and only shot 324 which is a bit low.

Finally I ended with a total of 1200 for a 1440. Yes you guessed it this is a ‘New National record’ the previous score was 1166.

I feel blessed that the day was wind free (or very little wind)

All the hours I have put in recently are now paying off and I know that this is not the time to take my foot off the pedal, it’s the time to train harder and focus on fine tuning my shooting.

Day 2 of the Cape Provincial tournament- double 720.

After the success of day 1 it can be very easy to put undue pressure on yourself to perform on the 2nd day of a tournament.

The first 720 started strong with scores of 302 and 302(including a miss) so I ended with a 604 which is a new SA record, previous score was 601.

The second 720 also started strong with the first score being 303, the second half was not so good feeling the affect of the sun, the heat(need to invest in a nice little umbrella) and the nasty little wind that started. Ended with a 279 and a 582 total.

I do have to admit that my energy and focus levels were pretty drained going into the last 36arrows.

The final days total was 1186, can you guess what comes next? Yes yet another new national record for the weekend up from the previous score of 1170.

So for the weekend I shot 6 new national records and obviously took gold in my category. If I had sit in the normal Men recurve division I would have won that at well by 98 points.

I will need again to thank the following people.

Many thanks to everyone who has help me get to this point in my shooting career
